Ghana coach Charles Akonnor has come to Razak Abalora’s defense, saying the Kotoko goalkeeper should be encouraged.
Abalora has faced a barrage of criticism following Ghana’s defeat to Morocco in an international friendly match on Tuesday.
In the 68th minute, the Kotoko goalkeeper mishandled Hakim Ziyech’s freekick, resulting in a free header by El Yamiq as the Atlas Lions won 1-0 in Rabat.
It was his second blunder in two games, and there have been calls for Abalora to be dropped from the starting lineup. Because first-choice goalkeeper Richard Ofori is injured, he has been starting.
Akonnor, on the other hand, has not given up hope on him.
“He has made a mistake, he knows himself, but we are not in a position to kill him,” said the coach. We require that everyone perform at a high level.
Yes, we must move forward and encourage him. He’s an excellent goalkeeper. There is no doubt about it. We will not kill him; instead, we will advise him on how to improve.”
The Black Stars are said to have arrived in Ghana on Wednesday morning to begin preparations for their upcoming friendly against Ivory Coast.
