Mr Koku Anyidoho, a former Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), stated in relation to the party’s 29th anniversary celebration that the grassroots will ensure that the party’s principles are restored.
On Thursday, June 10, the NDC celebrated its anniversary.
In a tweet, Mr Anyidoho stated, “Yesterday, June 10, is the NDC’s birthday.” All committed cadres who FOUNDED the NDC, as well as all true loyalists, must ensure that Presidents Rawlings and Atta-Mills’ toils/gains do not go to waste.
“We SHALL RESTORE THE NDC’S ESSENTIAL VALUES AND RESTORE THE PARTY’S PRIDE AND DIGNITY.”
Meanwhile, Mr Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, National Chairman of the NDC, stated that Former President John Dramani Mahama is the only President produced by the National Democratic Congress who is still alive, and that the party looks to him for direction and inspiration.
He stated this in an interview with Dzifa Bampoh on 3FM’s First Take on Thursday, June 10, following the NDC’s 29th anniversary celebration event.
“Even though [Mr Mahama] was not physically present, he was very present spiritually at this ceremony. He is the only surviving president of the NDC, and we look to him for inspiration and guidance.”
The main opposition party is celebrating its anniversary without its founder, late former President Jerry John Rawlings, for the first time in its history.
Mr Ofosu Ampofo also told Dzifa that Mr Rawlings’ spirit will continue to lead the party.
“We have had a very sober and deep reflection on his demise because he has been the party’s pillar, tower of strength, and inspiration.
“Today, we observed a minute of silence to honour him, we eulogized him, we remembered him for the leadership he provided for the party and for establishing the NDC party, which has come to stay and has become a very dominant force in the politics of this country,” he said” he said.
“So, as we celebrate this 29th anniversary for the first time without our charismatic founder, while we rejoice that the good Lord has brought us this far on the other side, we are very sad that we are celebrating this for the first time without our charismatic founder.
“We believe that President Rawlings’ spirit will continue to rally behind this party, to guide us in everything we do, and we pray that the good Lord will grant him a resting place and allow his legacy to blossom and grow from strength to strength.”
He went on to praise the NDC’s contributions to Ghana’s development.
He claimed that the party has unrivaled track records in most sectors of the economy, particularly education.
