Legon Cities fight back from behind to pick vital 2-1 win over Liberty

Legon Cities came from a goal down to pick a vital 2-1 win over Liberty Professionals at the Accra Sports Stadium on Wednesday night in matchday 24 of the Ghana Premier League. 

An Evans Owusu own goal equalized Kweku Karikari’s effort before Jonah Attuquaye scored the winner in injury time to complete the late comeback for Bashir Hayford’s men.

The win moves the Royals out of the relegation zone while the Scientific Soccer Lads are back in the drop zone again. 

Karikari capitalized on a Legon Cities defensive mix-up to give Liberty Professionals the lead in the 81st minute before Owusu turned in a Baba Mahama shot into his net four minutes later. 

Jonah Attuquaye scored the winner for the Royals in the 93rd minute inside the penalty box of Liberty to give Cities a lifeline in their relegation fight.

The result moves Legon Cities to the 15th position on the league log with 26 points, while Liberty are closely following on the 16th place with 25 points after 24 games.
