Kofi Ahenkorah Marfo, Member of Parliament for Achiase, has advised the NPP not to rely on the Akan tag placed on the party by the NDC in order to pick an inept flagbearer for the party in 2024.
According to him, if the party selects an incompetent leader for the 2024 election, it would be a major setback for the party’s efforts to break the eight-year period.
“The NDC should not be taken seriously. Because of what the NDC is saying, we must not panic and give Bawumia the job. We will not let the NDC choose our flagbearer for us. Listening to them will work against us.”
“We shouldn’t be concerned about being labeled as an Akan party. “The Akan Presidents come to power and perform admirably, and they do not discriminate,” he said.
“Everyone who wishes to lead the NPP has an equal opportunity to do so. As a political party, all candidates must run for the seat. If you want to be President, all you have to do is prove yourself. The NPP does not choose a flagbearer along tribal lines.
To him, the reasons of preferring a non-akan are neither here nor there, and therefore the party must concentrate on competence over tribal or ethnic ties.
