It has been revealed that Ghana head coach Charles Akonnor proposed Laryea Kingston for the role of second assistant coach at the Black Stars, but his choice of a local option was rejected by the Ghana FA.
The Ghana FA announced the appointment of Dutchman Patrick Greveraars on Monday, stating that Charles Akonnor recommended the former FC Porto U19 and PSV Eindhoven youth team coach.
Ghana Sports Online has confirmed that Greveraars was proposed by Akonnor, but only after the Ghana FA rejected the choice of former Wolfsburg captain Laryea Kingston and WAFA head coach Prosper Ogum Narteh.
Since taking office, the Kurt Okraku-led Ghana FA administration has been in favor of bringing in a foreign coach to oversee the technical affairs of the Black Stars.
However, their choice of a foreign coach contrasted sharply with the Ghanaian government’s preference for appointing a Ghanaian to manage the team technically.
Meanwhile, after being pushed into a corner, Akonnor chose to propose former Ghana international Laryea Kingston or Dr Prosper Ogum to the Ghana FA, but the GFA hierarchy insisted on a foreigner.
