The Station Officer at Seikwa Police Station and another officer on duty in the Bono Region‘s Tain District were detained by the Bono Regional Police Command for allegedly molesting a suspect and burying him when he died in their custody last week.
The manager of the Nafana Rural Bank in Seikwa is also in police custody, assisting with the investigation.
The suspect, Abu Bukari Bahala, 48, was said to have been arrested and molested by police officers after being sent to the station for smashing the windscreen of the manager of the Nafana Rural Bank’s car.
The suspect died in custody after suffering several bodily injuries; the officers on duty at the time allegedly went to bury the deceased, who was thought to be mentally retarded.
They were forced to exhume the body after the deceased’s family learned of their actions and stormed the police station with enraged youth.
According to Angel FM sources at the Bono Regional Police Command, the two police officers and bank manager have been arrested to assist with investigations.
In an interview with the media, a relative of the deceased, Abdul Rahman, stated that the family demands justice and hopes that all perpetrators are brought to justice.
